METROSCAN is a audiovisual project (IDM, electronics, glitch, real time generated computer graphics, post internet) created by two leading sound and video artists from Lithuania, Europe.
The title of the work has derived from Metro, Metropolis, Metronome and similar meanings, these many-sided concepts are digitally objectified and originally developed in this project.
The project is based on a purely digital aesthetics where specially live generating visual structures and diligent images interflow and interact with sophisticated electronic music - endless layers and textures of purely digital sound balanced on the edge of audibility, peculiar and diverse rhythms.
Both artists, working in different fields of the art and with different materials, managed to obtain solid, entirely integral and all-in-one artistic result in this project. Inspired by digital era, the project truly reflects post-urban-digital spirit of nowadays.
The music of this piece is using a very broad scale of frequencies and often balances between experimental and pulsating electronic music. Line and point are principal basic elements, reflected in both the music and the visuals. The latter are based on the conversion of the data of current sound into an image that is restored in realtime. It is characteristic of very fast change of elements (live generating visuals at Full HD in 60 frames per second), lush images and unpredictability.
The audiovisual work Metroscan was first revealed to the public during the project Garsovaizdis/Soundscape in Vilnius, commisioned and produced by Vilnius Festivals and it‘s one of most successfull audiovisual project from Baltic sea region. Later this project, named by creators as work in progress, was performed more than 20 times live in various countries of Europe, America and Asia.
